The Gold Coast is fast becoming the Hollywood of Australia. With Village Roadshow Studios at Gold Coast’s Movieworld we are starting to get some big budget blockbuster movies filmed here.
From 1996 to 2010 these are some of the movies filmed here:

Mark Ruffalo learnt to dive with us
When big budget Hollywood movies come to your local city you realise a few things very quickly. The place starts to buzz, you start seeing filming all over the place. Not a few cameras but many truck loads of cameras and support crew. The work that is generated from these movies is unreal.
There are famous actors everywhere. Locals are bumping into big movie stars at the shopping centre or in the restaurants…let’s get as many Hollywood movies to the Gold Coast as possible I say.
Qld Scuba Diving Company were lucky enough to get some work from these Hollywood movies on the Gold Coast and we also had our brush with fame.
The work we got was form The Shallows, it is a movie about sharks and as you can imagine a lot of time filming was spent in the water.
We did not get a chance to be on set for this movie but they did require a massive amount of scuba diving equipment and we supplied a lot of this equipment to them.
The brush with fame was when they were filming Thor: Ragnarok and Mark Ruffalo came into our dive shop and signed up for our 3 day PADI Open Water Course. That’s right Mark Ruffalo got his PADI Open Water Certification with us at Qld Scuba Diving Company.
His instructor was our dive shop manager Anthony West. Anthony says that Mark was a pleasure to teach and that he was very nice and down to earth…. oh and here is a picture to prove it.
